JetAmerica Airline $9 fare plus tax

Startup JetAmerica Launches with $9 Fare Offer
Published on: May 28, 2009

Startup carrier JetAmerica has begun selling $9 one-way seats on service schedule to begin July 13. It will serve six cities. Its inaugural roundtrip flights launch from Lansing, Michigan, Melbourne-Vero Beach, Florida, South Bend, Indiana and Toledo, Ohio to New York- Newark, New Jersey. Jet America is also flying roundtrip flights from Toledo and Lansing to Melbourne-Vero Beach. Starting August 14, Jet America will fly roundtrip from Toledo to Minneapolis-St. Paul. According to JetAmerica, passengers flying these routes are cramped into small turbo-prop planes and regional jets. They also must make connections, endure long layovers and pay expensive fares. JetAmerica says it will provide full size, fuel-efficient Next Generation Boeing 737-800 series non-stop jet flights at fares 50 to 70 percent less than major airlines traveling similar but indirect routes.
JetAmerica also is stimulating markets with some of the lowest air fares in the nation that will encourage business travelers as well as people who fly occasionally or do not fly at all to start flying from their hometown rather than from larger out-of-of-town airports, which previously offered better deals. The airline is also looking at other cities, including Chicago/Rockford, Ill.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio; Dayton, Ohio; Greensboro/Winston-Salem/Highpoint, N.C.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; and St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Fla. The airline’s CEO is John Weikle, founder of SkyBus Airlines, which flew for less than a year and closed in April 2008, citing fuel costs and the economy. Update on Siwine Flu from Secrets Resorts and Dreams Resorts

FYI :

May 8, 2009
Greetings Roy,
We would like to begin by thanking you for your ongoing and continued support, as we know it has been quite challenging.
There has been an overwhelming amount of negative media coverage reported these past few weeks and we are sad to say that the majority of reporting is considered to be a lot of hype and misinformation.
It is very important to understand and focus on the facts under these circumstances and our goal is to help you do just that.
The Facts:
According to Mexico’s Health Minister, José Angel Córdova, of the 159 deaths reported during the flu outbreak in the country, only 16 were confirmed to be associated with the swine flu.
Only 10% of the number originally stated by the media
Population of Mexico City: 26.7 million people
Relative percentage of people infected in Mexico City: 5 ten millionths of one percent
The United States reports 38,000 deaths per year to the regular flu
According to Quintana Roo State Secretary of Tourism, no fatal cases of influenza have been reported in the main tourism destinations: Cancún, Riviera Maya, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Nayarit and Huatulco
The BBC has reported the influenza is in decline, according to Mexican Health Minister, Jose Cordova.
CNN reports, the health alert drop in Mexico City is a sign that Mexico City is successfully overcoming the influenza and the preventative actions taken are producing positive results, states Mexico City Mayor, Marcelo Ebrad.
The World Health Organization is NOT recommending travel restrictions. Scientific research indicates that restricting travel will be of limited or no benefit in stopping the spread of disease, according to the WHO.
CNN’s travel expert, Peter Greenberg states the H1N1 reporting has been blown out of proportion and has created an unnecessary ‘abundance of fear’. Watch the interview here.
Listen to what guests currently in Mexico are saying:
“If you watch the national media, you are misinformed.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsCL-WAdLSo
“If you're thinking about coming to Mexico, the rates are down, the airfare is cheap, so get down here before the rest of the country finds out.” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sAw9ud5ZDs
Even with the negative reports, Mexico tourism remains active and all restaurants, cafes, libraries, museums, churches and archaeological sites are open.
While some airlines have reduced scheduled flights to Mexico, we would like to point out that tour operators such as Apple Vacations have maintained and will continue to maintain charter flights to Mexico. Their current $99 flight special in combination with our Spring Escape promotion - 55% savings, resort credits and kids stay free - is just something your clients can’t pass up. It’s actually the best time to travel.

Swine flu update May 5th 2008 from Mexico

Mexico Travel Update May 5, 2009 The Quintana Roo State Secretary of Tourism (Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres & Cozumel) reports that based on the information provided by State Secretary of Health, there has not been a registered case of H1N1 A influenza within the state of Quintana Roo to date. Health Secretary Jose Cordova said infections were trending downward in Mexico and President Felipe Calderon announced Universities and high schools will open their doors Thursday, and younger schoolchildren are to report back to school May 11.
Sanitary measures have been extended to all hotels, restaurants and shops along the Mexican Caribbean corridor.
SEDETUR reported that the National Anthropology and History Institute announced that all archaeological sites throughout the country will be closed from now until further notice.
State authorities, following recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) have advised both residents and visitors to avoid concentrations larger than 80 people at closed buildings; thus, a significant number of businesses, such as restaurants, bars or night clubs have been out of service for the past 5 days. Monday, May 4, Mexican officials lowered their flu alert level and plan to allow schools, businesses, museums and libraries to reopen this week.
Theme parks within the state remain open and are operating under their normal schedules, since they all operate under open skies. Shopping malls are also operating normally, as are water sports and marinas.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) gives you comprehensive health information for specific destinations, required vaccinations, information for travelers with special needs, and timely updates about other health news.
Visit the U.S. State Department Travel Website for additional travel information.

Cinco de Mayo Festivities

Mexico anxious to return to normal as H1N1 fears subsideThe World Health Organization said the number of confirmed cases of H1N1 flu is more than 1,000 worldwide, while officials in the U.S. and Mexico said the worst of the outbreak may be over. Swine Flu update - No rationale for travel restrictions

printable version
No rationale for travel restrictions
1 May 2009 -- WHO is not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the influenza A(H1N1) virus. Today, international travel moves rapidly, with large numbers of individuals visiting various parts of the world. Limiting travel and imposing travel restrictions would have very little effect on stopping the virus from spreading, but would be highly disruptive to the global community.
Influenza A(H1N1) has already been confirmed in many parts of the world. The focus now is on minimizing the impact of the virus through the rapid identification of cases and providing patients with appropriate medical care, rather than on stopping its spread internationally. Furthermore, although identifying the signs and symptoms of influenza in travellers can be an effective monitoring technique, it is not effective in reducing the spread of influenza as the virus can be transmitted from person to person before the onset of symptoms. Scientific research based on mathematical modelling indicates that restricting travel will be of limited or no benefit in stopping the spread of disease. Historical records of previous influenza pandemics, as well as experience with SARS, have validated this point.
Travellers can protect themselves and others by following simple recommendations related to travel aimed at preventing the spread of infection. Individuals who are ill should delay travel plans and returning travellers who fall ill should seek appropriate medical care. These recommendations are prudent measures which can limit the spread of many communicable diseases and not only influenza A(H1N1).

Swine Flu Free after returning from Mexico

news from cnn

I thought I had escaped the daily grind of the 24-hour news business when I went on a weeklong vacation in Mexico with my mom and a friend. I was seeking news-free sun and relaxation in a hypnotic tropical paradise and deliberately powered off my arsenal of PDAs to get a much-needed respite from news and technology.

I did get the sun (burn) and relaxation -- but I also got a side dish of anxiety that I don't remember ordering.
The anxiety reared its ugly head along the sun-soaked, art-adorned beach in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta when I saw dozens of people huddled around a television set on a Saturday afternoon, intently watching Mexican news reports.
My heart raced, and so did my thoughts -- first pondering possible drug violence and then considering the possibility of a fresh terrorist attack.
As I inched closer to the TV, I discovered that more than 150 people had died of swine flu, or 2009 H1N1, in Mexico City, a mere 550 miles from this beach.
Huddled around a television set -- It sounds like a scene from a movie or footage from the day JFK was assassinated, but that was how this full-time (often overtime) news producer found out about the swine flu outbreak. Not by my Blackberry or iPhone, which are often interchangeably wedged to my fingertips like garish nail extensions.
Just how severe the outbreak was and how much anxiety it was creating struck me when I heard that the U.S. government was urging U.S. travelers to cancel their trips to Mexico and other countries were outright canceling all flights to and from the country

What about us travelers already in Mexico, I wondered? The locals seemed mostly at ease, and I didn't see anyone at our resort cutting their trip short to evacuate from paradise.
I roused my gadgets from their three-day slumber (full recharges required) and became glued to the news again. And in the days that followed, we received inquiries from worried friends and colleagues back home.
Then those things showed up. My friend spotted the first ones on Tuesday: surgical masks sported by bicyclists in Bucerías, a tiny fishing village in Nayarit. The masks quickly became a don't-leave-home-without-it trend.
When I left Wednesday, the scene at the airport knocked the caution of the outside world back into me. My carry-on bag contained Mexican milagros (religious charms), expensive tequila and Dia de los Muertos souvenirs but not a single surgical mask to stave off potential illness.
After seeing people wearing the masks everywhere I looked in the airport, I decided to follow the trend but couldn't find a single mask for sale.
Once I reached the security checkpoint, I was instructed to fill out a questionnaire about whether I had any flu symptoms such as fever, cough, headache, limb and joint pain, eye redness or nasal flux.
A fellow traveler -- still in jovial vacation mode -- made light of the questions by asking whether drunkenness was one of the symptoms. Everyone within earshot laughed. We needed a little comic relief at that point.
At the departure gate, the attendants gave everyone hand wipes before we boarded the plane. Not all of the airlines were doing this, but at that point I welcomed whatever virus-killing option was offered to me.
Now, back home in Atlanta, I'm happy to report that I'm flu-free -- despite edging on hypochondria. Maybe I need a post-vacation vacation?
Oh, and I want to give a quick shout-out to my friend Steve, who had to cancel his trip to Puerto Vallarta next week. Sorry, Stevo, next time the tequila is on me
CNN producer Valerie Streit enjoys a meal during her sort-of-relaxing vacation.

I myself as a travel agent has been to Puerto Vallarta when the swine flu started , since then, i am still swine flu free.

Swine Flu Cases in Cancun update

No Swine Flu in Cancun and Riviera Maya ,

Mexico's Quintana Roo Reports No Cases of Swine Flu
Published on: May 1, 2009

The Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo (Sedetur) reports that based on data provided by the Ministry of Health there have been no reports of any cases of swine influenza in the tourist destinations in Quintana Roo. Despite the increase in the alert phase from four to five issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), the tourism industry has extreme health measures in all hotels, restaurants and shops of the tourist corridor in the Mexican Caribbean. The tourism secretariat indicates that, starting April 30, Cancun International Airport will be provided with infrared thermometers, which measure the temperature of all passengers entering and leaving the destination. This is in order to strengthen the preventive measures implemented in the state. Airport authorities reported that these thermometers measure temperature without physical contact with the passenger and that these actions will allow the detection of the main symptoms of the virus.

Given the restrictions on travel to Mexico, issued by the countries of the G-7, a significant decrease in occupancy levels for all destinations in Quintana Roo as well as a lowering in the air traffic operations has been reported. Provisions of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), museums and archaeological sites around the country will remain closed until further notice. The authorities of the State of Quintana Roo, as recommended by the WHO, have called citizens and tourists to avoid concentrations of more than 80 people indoors, so consequently a large number of establishments, including clubs and restaurants, are out of service temporarily. Theme parks across the state are maintaining their normal operating hours, since all these activities operate in open spaces. The shopping malls are operating as usual as well as the marinas. The state government maintains a constant monitoring of the health of citizens and tourists and is prepared to act if necessary.
